Ellen Lee Field [Married name]
Art Gallery and Studio
Ellen is well known for her unique artworks in pastel, oil, acrylic, watercolour and pencil.

Her work reflects a love of the Australian landscape,
bird life and country life in the 'olden days'. Each painting tells a story.
Some create a nostalgic atmosphere while others present a slightly cheeky overtone.
`The Singing Artist'
Whether it’s with a paintbrush or a guitar Ellen Lee Osterfield has been painting pictures of Australia for over 30years. Her intense love of the Australian Landscape and its colourful characters, bird life, flowers and life in days gone by, has seen her win numerous awards for her singing/song writing and painting. Inheriting a lot of her musical and artistic talents from her father Bill, Ellen started entertaining from the age of three, when she would sing her version of the classic “ Springtime in the Rockies” for visitors. Her mother played guitar when Ellen and her sister were youngsters, music echoed through the household on a daily basis. On Saturday nights the family would bundle up and go to the Old time dance in the hall at Marong near Bendigo. Ellen’s grandfather Fred Osterfield would run the dance while her grandmother Henrietta organized the lavish supper. With Bill singing it really was a family affair.
Ellen’s artistic talent was recognised in Primary School when she came home with her first cartoon drawing. Thinking she may have traced it, her mother asked her to draw another one for her to see. With surprise and delight she witnessed the beginning of her daughters love affair with art. Always encouraged by her parents both with music and painting Ellen went on to paint and sing her way around Australia. Her first album entitled “Ghost Town Lady”, was self financed and contained 12 of her own songs. Landing a recording contract in 1979 with Aussie company Selection Records Ellen headed into the recording studio to record her second album entitled “Outlaw”. Selection boss Eric Watson said he was drawn to her uniquely Australian style. She went on to record a further album called “Runnin’ Free” plus being featured on numerous compilation albums. Her music has reached as far field as New Zealand, France and other parts of Europe. In 1979 Ellen won the prestigious Lachlan Vintage Village award at the Parkes/ Forbes country music festival in NSW. In the same year she was one of the five finalists at the Tamworth Golden Guitars.
In 1985 Ellen married and set off around Australia again with her husband Wayne, this time they were hostess and driver for a coach and four-wheel drive touring company. Swapping the stage and footlights for singing around the campfire under the stars, was just what this girl from Bendigo needed to breathe new life into her song writing and her painting. It was during this time while based in Alice Springs that Ellen’s artworks were sold to private collections worldwide. Retiring from the road some years later the pair went cruising down the Murray River as resident entertainers on a riverboat restaurant out of the Port of Echuca. Needless to say numerous songs and paintings of the Murray were created as a result.
Since returning home to Bendigo to raise their family Ellen and Wayne have built a brand new home complete with studio and art gallery, to showcase her works of art in Pastel, Gouache, Acrylic, Oil and Pencil and silk art. The rural surroundings of their home continue to inspire Ellen musically and artistically, however life on the road in this big country is never far from her thoughts.
Ellen is currently providing a Gospel music/Art production in churches in Australia, and is finishing off a film script called "The Bushrangers" in her 'spare time '.
